Rock Garden Designs
Plants that fit well in rock garden designs are usually small so as to allow the rocks to remain uncovered. There are plenty of low-growing plants with abundant flowering capabilities that you might choose to use in your rockery. Rock garden plants usually need full sun during the day; a minium of 6-8 hours worth. Also the plants will usually be drought tolerant and prefer well-drained soil.

Many of these low growing plants serve to enhance the rocks by providing beautiful textures and color throughout the growing season. As you create your design, plan to place it along a walkway, a patio or a location nearby where you can see and enjoy it often. When setting up your rock garden, you'll start with a pile of rocks, large and small, arranged with small gaps between. In these small gaps is where you'll put in the plants. Also, plan to set off these smaller plants by using large rocks behind them to form a background.
